Engineered for Flavor. Built for Yield.
The Challenge RMF experienced engineers and manufacturers build our meat marinating/massaging technology using advanced design protocols and precision craftsmanship.
Made of heavy-gauge stainless steel, each drum is hand-welded, including forming and welding the helical flights.
Excellence in Every Rotation
Durable? Our first meat massager/marinater built in the 80s is still in use.
Reliable? Absolutely, with a service and parts team that knows you have no time for downtime.
Customizable? Yes, with client-driven options and the largest choice of sizes in the industry.
In the end, it all comes down to your product. Our Meat-on-Meat Massage™ technology activates muscle deep into the product. The gentle massage action within our drum avoids product damage while delivering maximum protein exudation and water binding.
Higher quality end product with higher yield—that’s a win-win for you and your customers.
Challenge RMF innovates the entire meat processing line, starting with our meat massagers/marinaters, and then with dumpers, vacuum loaders, cryogenic and microwave systems, and more. From the engineer’s keyboard to the end customer’s dinner plate, it’s the best of the best.

World Class. American Made.
Operating in the heart of the Heartland, Challenge RMF doesn’t just build industrial food processing equipment. Our team of engineers, manufacturers, and consultants designs and delivers market advantage.
Each piece of Challenge RMF meat marinating/massaging technology provides precision performance for processing facilities demanding excellence in process and product.
As part of the RMF family of manufacturers, Challenge RMF makes a great percentage of our equipment parts in-house. Our commitment to quality goes beyond assembling pieces ordered from other manufacturers.
Sure, outsourcing to an overseas factory would be cheaper—but that’s also the problem. Their parts could be cheaply made, and we’re not willing to put your company’s reputation and ROI on the cost-cutting chopping block.
Testing, and Then Testing Again
Our inspection process follows the progress of every part of your Challenge RMF order.
- Raw materials. We make sure that raw materials can be machined into the best parts for Challenge RMF. If not, it goes back, period.
- In-house parts. Our teams inspect every part that comes out of our machine shop at least twice. Precision is key, and we don’t accept anything less than perfect.
- Fabrication. As we put together your custom equipment, we constantly inspect every piece, communicating among the team members to ensure best processes.
- Testing. We do multiple tests as the piece is built, then test the whole system before shipping to your location for pre-commissioning and start-up.
Every person contributing to the process, from engineers to fabricators to sales to management, collaborates during the meat marinating/massaging technology production journey. We make sure nothing gets overlooked.
Performance You Can Taste
Our bottom line has been—and always will be—quality. Our companies machine important parts right here, taking raw stainless steel sheets and bars and tubes, and more, and turning them into precision pieces of heavy machinery.
Challenge RMF is your American-made powerhouse that optimizes the performance of some of the world’s most critical food processing lines.
From the production floor to the accounting office—and eventually, to the dinner table of your friends and neighbors—you’re going to love what Challenge RMF can do.

How We Created Innovation You Can Taste
It all began with Bruce Gould, a man who saw a possibility. Through design, investment, sweat equity, and maybe a beer or two—he created an industry-changing product that quickly set the gold standard for meat massaging/marinating.
Previous meat tumblers became obsolete with their destructive action, lower yield, and mediocre quality. Challenge RMF’s Meat-on-Meat Massage™ technology uses advanced meat massaging/marinating to provide top value for companies and top quality for customers.
1978
Bruce Gould sketches a design for a gentle yet effective meat massager. Unlike the standard meat-damaging “lift-and-drop” drums in the industry, his new design provides sliding, massaging action that preserves muscle structure while enhancing flavor and tenderness.
1980
RMF Farmland Foods agrees to a trial run of Bruce’s prototype Challenge Meat Massager. After the machine processes just one batch, Farmland places an order for the first commercial unit.
1985
After 5 years of successful, rapidly increasing industry use to tenderize all types of meat muscle (including bone-in and boneless in multiple sizes), our Meat-on-Meat Massage™ technology is granted patent number 4,517,888.
1986
The David Letterman Show picks up a trade advertisement from Challenge, to which Paul Schaffer creates a catchy jingle: “For a sweet massage that can’t be beat, there’s nothing like the action of Meat-on-Meat!”
1988
Bruce partners RMF Steel of Grandview, MO, to form Challenge RMF. John Robertson of RMF and Bruce forge a successful business alliance and an exceptional personal partnership.
